A Place to Be Formed

At Saint Paul’s, we believe the Church is more than a place of worship—it is a community where souls are formed and lives are transformed. Our clergy are here not just to lead liturgy but to walk with you as spiritual mentors, helping you grow in Christlikeness through intentional spiritual practices.

Dallas Willard wrote:

“We can increasingly resemble Christ in character and in power by following Him in His overall style of life.”

This is our vision for spiritual formation at Saint Paul’s.

What Is Spiritual Formation?

Spiritual formation is the process by which we become more like Jesus in heart, mind, and life. It involves more than information—it requires transformation.

“Salvation is not just the forgiveness of sins—it is a new kind of life, the eternal kind of life, lived with God and from God.” — Dallas Willard

We are not saved by our own efforts, but by grace. Yet that grace calls us into training, not just trying (1 Tim. 4:7).

The Role of the Church and the Priest

Spiritual growth is not meant to happen in isolation. That’s why God gives the Church—and her ministers.

Your priest is available to guide you in:

  • Spiritual direction and discernment
  • Crafting a rule of life
  • Developing habits of prayer, fasting, and study
  • Walking through difficult seasons with spiritual clarity

As Richard Foster reminds us,

“God has given us the Disciplines of the spiritual life as a means of receiving His grace.”

Tools for the Journey

We encourage all who desire deeper formation to begin engaging in classic spiritual disciplines, such as:

  • Silence and Solitude: Time alone with God for reflection and prayer
  • Scripture Reading: Meditating on God’s Word daily
  • Fasting: Saying no to self to say yes to God
  • Service: Loving others as Christ loved us
  • Confession: Opening your heart in honesty before God
  • Guidance: Seeking wise counsel from those formed in Christ

“The secret of the easy yoke is to live as Jesus lived in the entirety of His life.”
—Dallas Willard
