🎧 Sermon Podcast: Parable of the Rich Fool (St. Luke 12:13-21)
📅 Preached by Rev. Steven Macias at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Los Altos on August 3, 2025
In this sermon, Rev. Steve Macias explores the prophetic purpose of Jesus’ parables—not as mere moral tales, but as covenant lawsuits announcing divine judgment. Focusing on the parable of the rich fool, this episode unpacks Christ’s warning against covetousness, the folly of hoarding, and the eternal weight of stewardship. Drawing from Scripture, classical philosophy, and Church Fathers, listeners are called to examine their inheritance—not in barns and wealth, but in the unshakable Kingdom of God. Will you be found rich toward God?
I. Possession is Not the Point
- Covetousness is a proto-sin—a dissatisfaction with God’s providence.
- Your life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.
- We are stewards, not owners.
II. Hoarding is Foolish and Fatal
- The rich fool stores up treasure but loses his soul.
- Hoarding reflects fear, control, and leads to ruin.
- Like the dragon’s hoard in myth, it curses rather than blesses.
- “The bread in your hoard belongs to the hungry…” — St. Basil.
III. In the Kingdom, Gifts Grow When Given
- Inheritance is meant to bless others, not be hoarded.
- Abundance multiplies when shared.
- Jesus is the true Heir who became poor for our sake.
- “Fear not, little flock—for your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom.”
